Christmas is a time of many family traditions, but the one I look forward to most each year is Christmas pajamas. Everyone in our family gets decked out in their holiday PJs on Christmas morning while we open presents. We may have to
force nudge the guys a bit to get dressed, but it makes for some really great photos and memories. It’s also how I keep track of my Christmases. “Was that the Christmas we wore the chili pepper pajamas or the elf pajamas?”
I think one of the things I like most about this holiday tradition is the time my mom and I spend together picking out our pajamas. We typically start looking for them in October. We have a lot of family to buy them for in a lot of different sizes, and the good ones get picked over fast (especially if it’s a family collection), so we start early. Even though we don’t live near each other we spend a lot of time on the phone while we shop the internet together, or we take pictures and message back and forth if we ever make it out to a real live store. It’s a lot of fun and something we both enjoy doing together!
After all the pajama shopping I’ve done, the least I could do is help all you other holiday pajama traditionalists with some of my favorites. That is, of course, unless you want to spend some time with your momma, too. Which if you do, ignore everything I have below, and have fun getting to work together!
These pajamas from Carters are just the cutest! I’m so in love with buffalo check right now but haven’t worked up the courage to wear it yet. Putting the kids to bed in it might be the next best thing!
These sets from Gap Kids are really great if you’re looking for something for both girls and boys.
Pottery Barn Kids pajamas…how could you go wrong? I love their classic style, and the Rudolph pajamas are great for either boys and girls. In fact, most of their patterns are unisex. Big plus!
Gymboree has several fun sets like these holiday lights and gingerbread (there’s a girl’s version, too!) pajamas.
In years past, all of the kids wore one set of matching pajamas, while the adults wore a different somewhat matching set…or whatever we could find in Christmas PJs for adults. Luckily, so many stores have started coming out with matching family sets that we don’t have to do that anymore. These are the PJs that sell out the fastest, though. We are obviously not the only ones that like this trend!
Hanna Andersson has some of the highest quality PJs out there. Last year we went with a Hanna Andersson set, and they have held up exceptionally well. They’ve been washed numerous times, and they haven’t faded, shrunk, or pilled at all. I also love that most of their holiday pajamas come in a family set. Their prints are some of the cutest I’ve seen ranging from traditional Fair Isle to ultra cool Star Wars. They probably have the largest collection of different prints that I’ve come across, so they’re definitely worth checking out.
So, which ones are we going with? This little nugget that I’ve been saving for last. I was so excited to see that Target is carrying several family sets this year. There are so many that I had a hard time choosing, but we’ve decided to go with this striped set. The pants are fleece, which is great for cold winters, and I love the shirt.
Does your family have a pajama tradition at Christmas? I’d love for you to tell me what your favorites are in the comments!
