Thanks for joining me on the 4th week of the One Room Challenge! We are in the final weeks, and I’m definitely getting nervous! I’m starting to move things back into the room, and I’m doubting some of my design choices now that I’m seeing it all together. I may have some changes to share with you next week, but today I thought I’d share some of the artwork I’m considering for the room.
In my design board, I included some metal artwork, and I think I’ve found just the piece. It’s large, so it really makes a statement, and I love how the gold looks up against the gray walls.
This geode watercolor is one I’m not sure about. I have a thing for natural stones, so I was automatically drawn to it. I’m also planning on using some green geode bookends in the room. The colors in the print are really beautiful! It’s just that I don’t have any other blue accents in the room. I keep telling myself navy is a neutral, so it will look great in the room no matter what other colors I use. Am I just telling myself that because I love it? If I do use it, I think it would look much better with a gold frame to go with the colors in the artwork.
I love the muted colors in this floral artwork, but I’m worried it blends into the wall a bit much. If there’s time, I’d like to build a frame around it to give it a little more definition.
And…the thing I am probably most excited about in the room is that Sharon Mowry Studio (aka “Mom”) has agreed to make the artwork that will go over the bed! My mom makes some really incredible art with broken glass pieces, and I’ve been wanting some of her art for a long time. I have a very small piece that she made years ago, but she’s been so busy that I don’t have any big pieces of her art. I think it would be really awesome to have something for this room since it will be where she stays when she comes to visit. I’ve sent her pictures of the room and the decor I’m using along with measurements of the space, so she has a feel for how I want the room to look. The final product will be a surprise even to me! She’s got incredible taste, so I trust her completely on this.
Check out some of her work:
I’m so excited to have something in this room that has so much meaning! I know that whatever she makes me will be something that I cherish forever.
Do you follow me on Instagram? I’ve been starting to share some of the decor details, and I’d love for you to follow me and check them out!
I hope you’ll stop back next week to hear about some of the problems that have come up and some changes I’m thinking about making. You can also sign up for my updates here and receive access to my new resource library. It has lots of great printables for all over your home including a recipe binder, pantry and spice labels, gift tags, and more. I’m working on new stuff for it all the time. Also, don’t forget to check out the other One Room Challenge Featured Designers and Guest Participants. See you next week!

I LOVE the geode print and agree a gold frame would look amazing and tie it into the metal piece you’re using as well! π I can’t wait to see what your mom makes…it’ll be so great to have one of her pieces. That’s how I feel about having all of K.K.’s paintings in my house.

I really like your artwork. I think the floral canvas would look good without a frame because it will stick out from the wall some. The gold swirl piece will draw attention to the center of the flower since the color is similar. I thought you had some blue in your throw pillows on your bed that might match the blue in the geode watercolor with the black frame. If your nightstand legs are still black, I don’t think you need to change the frame. Your headboard is dark, too, so I think the black frame would tie in with that. This is just me, though. The less work the better! Your room is going to look great. Oh, I just remembered about your surprise art work. That glass art is amazing! I’ve never seen anything like that! We have some portraits my sister-in-law did. One is of my husband when he was a boy and the other is of their great-grandfather when he was 90-something. Art done by family just adds such a personal and unique touch to a room. I’ll be interested to see what you decide about everything!
