You may be surprised, but back when we lived in Thailand we could get most of the foods we were accustomed to eating back in the U.S. There was an import grocery store that carried Cheerios, Kraft Mac and Cheese, and even things like Eggo waffles. You name it, and we could pretty much get it. However, the one thing that I couldn’t get was a really good barbecue sauce. I never found one that I liked in the store, and we did a lot of grilling, so I went on a quest to find the perfect BBQ sauce recipe!

One of my favorite things to eat whenever we go to a steakhouse is a pepper crusted steak. I just love freshly ground black pepper, and that is one of the things I love most about this BBQ sauce recipe. The combination of the coarse black pepper and cayenne pepper gives it a really nice kick.
The sauce also has a really nice balance of sweet and tangy-ness. I typically use white vinegar in the recipe if I’m serving beef dishes like brisket or chopped beef sandwiches, and I use apple cider vinegar for pork and chicken dishes. I recently tried this apple cider vinegar, and I think it gave the BBQ sauce a really nice flavor.
I always make at least double the recipe before we have a barbecue or are grilling with friends. It’s great on top of burgers and sausage, as well as for a dipping sauce.
And, because I love to be able to give something to our guests to take home with them, I made these cute little printable BBQΒ Sauce labels that you can adhere to the side or lid of a jar. Β One BBQ sauce recipe fills 2 pint jars. Β The labels are available free to email subscribers in the resource library, along with our printable recipe binder to keep track of all your recipes. The labels are formatted to fit on these 2″ round labels, but you could also print them on paper and adhere them to the jar with clear packing tape.

It is funny how you can’t get certain “standard” foods and condiments over seas. When my friend’s daughter was a missionary over in India, she was always sending her things like ketchup and candy. This recipe sounds really good and I like doctoring bottled sauces, so I am going to save this to try!
