What essential oils are good for winter?
Peppermint, fir balsam, and wintergreen are usually the first winter essential oils you think of during this season. However, I have created a list of all the other fabulous smelling essential oils for holiday home fragrance.
How do I know these essential oils will smell good?
In my free calendar printable, I have 25 different Christmas essential oil blends. Each diffuser blend incorporates a unique combination of some of the above essential oils. Aroma is very subjective. I love lavender, but you might hate it.
Therefore, you might be curious about how the blends smell. I recommend opening up the bottles you are planning to blend and smelling them. You know what scents you like. Then, you can experiment from there. That is how I have found out what blends I like and don’t like.
Where is the best place to buy essential oils?
There are so many different brands of essential oils out on the market right now. It can be really overwhelming to know which ones are safe for your family. A reputable company uses a third party to test and evaluate the quality of their oils. The test that is done is called GC/MS, which stands for Gas Chromatograph Mass Spectrometry. It ensures the essential oils are within the proper guidelines and you can learn more about it here. As always conduct your own research.
Currently, I use Edens Garden essential oils and am happy with their quality and price point. Prior to using Edens Garden, I was a doTerra essential oil user. DoTerra is a good quality, reputable brand and I was happy with using them. Since there are now other quality brands available, I did the research and switched to Edens Garden. Their price point worked better for me. In addition, I can get my essential oils in 2 days with my Prime membership through Amazon.
What essential oils should I start with?
If you are new to essential oils, you might be worried about purchasing all these individual bottles. Those were my thoughts when I first started. As a result, I purchased an essential oil intro set. It was the best value for the quantity and allowed me to start my blend experimentation immediately.
This is a great beginner’s guide to using essential oils. It discusses starting small and being safe. In addition, it talks about how important dilution is. Do your research and you will be having fun experimenting with these essential oils in no time.
How to make homemade essential oil Christmas gifts
DIY essential oil blends make great gifts. You could make a DIY toilet spray or just gift the blends themselves utilizing the above Christmas essential oil blends.
- First, select which blend or blends you think your gift recipient will love.
- Second, purchase empty 1 ml glass essential oil bottles.
- Next, add one essential oil blend per bottle. Adjust the drop count accordingly. One 1 ml essential oil bottle will hold about 30 drops. So, if the blend recipe contains a total of 5 drops of all the different essential oils, multiply the recipe by 6, and a 1 ml bottle should be about to hold it.
- Then, make however many essential oil blends that you want to give.
- Next, purchase an item your gift recipient can use the essential oil blends on. For example, a beautiful lava stone necklace or lava rock bracelet are great gift ideas. Otherwise, gift them a pretty diffuser.
- Lastly, decoratively wrap your gifts, such as tying festive bows on your homemade essential oil blends.

Which Essential Oils Smell Most Like a Christmas Tree?
Pretty much any of the pine type essential oils are going to smell similar to a Christmas tree, but there are a few that tend to stand out. If you’re looking for a nostalgic scent, think about the type of Christmas tree you used to get as a child and see if there is an essential oil for it. For instance, if your family used to always get a blue spruce, maybe a general spruce essential oil would be good oil for you.
- Fir Balsam
- Douglas Fir
- Spruce
- Fir Needle – this is made from Siberian Fir
